There are 1,158 noncommercial radio stations included in The Directory. There are four major types of stations:
1. “Public radio” refers to stations that have full-time staff, professional fund raising and broadcast programming from national organizations such as NPR, PRI, APM, or WFMT. There are 425 public radio stations included in The Directory.
2. “Community radio” refers to stations that have some full-time staff but depend largely on volunteers.
